a plea to my unborn child

hello baby sunshine.
it's mama.

today, at 36 weeks and 5 days, i found out some news about you.
they tell me that you're already trying to do things your own way. trying to be unique and different. the doctor told me that you are trying to enter this world - feet first.

that's right. you are breech.
only 3% of babies are born breech. the other 97% are born conventionally - with their heads first.

i know you are cozy and comfy just right where you are and you probably want to do this your way. but mama needs you to turn around and just this one time….be a conformist.

tomorrow morning, the doctor is going to try to turn you around manually. sounds scary, i know. i feel the same way. she's going to give mama some medicine and then apply external pressure to mama's tummy placing her hands on your head and bottom to try to coax you to change positions. it is called an external cephalic version or version, for short.

it's going to be quite uncomfortable for mama and you won't enjoy it either. but please just let her roll you over, baby. it's really important. it will be safer for you and mama.

if you don't change positions, it is likely that the doctor will need to cut mama's tummy open to get you out….and i don't think either of us want that. mama has gone to great lengths to bring you into the world with as few interventions as possible. i chose a hospital that promotes natural childbirth and has a birthing tub. daddy and i hired a doula to help mama labor naturally as long as possible to give you the best possible entrance into this world.

we don't want to throw that all away now for a drug induced c-section,
do we? no, i don't think so either.

so tomorrow is a big day, my baby boy. versions are successful 60% of the time. i'm hoping we are in that 60%. so baby, please listen to your mama and cooperate with the doctor. i love you so much and just want you to arrive in my arms as safely as possible.

Hoping it works, Jessah. If not, know that it is still entirely possible to have a wonderful birth experience via Cesarean. In the meantime, am hoping the version works.

Jessah, I will be thinking about you! My little gal is breech right now too (I'm at 30 weeks now) and my doctor has mentioned trying a version if she doesn't flip by 35 weeks or so. I'll be interested to hear how the experience goes for you. Thoughts and prayers being sent your way!

*hugs* hope it works! It didn't work for our rainbow baby and I did end up in c-section.. but they couldn't try an inversion for me! Crossing fingers and toes! If you do end up down the c-section road, a doula is wonderful and there are things called natural c-sections!

Oh gracious! Was he head down earlier and recently turned? Or has he always been feet down. It sounds awful as I imagine you are all baby with no room for kidneys and bladder. I'm thinking if you today! Hoping for a successful visit for you and baby sunshine.

Hearing the news that your baby is breach can be so nerve inducing and disheartening especially when you are set on a natural delivery. my second pregnancy was that way. I went in for a 35 week appointment and they felt around and then brought in the ultrasound machine. After having a very successful (although early) natural delivery with my first, this possibility never crossed my mind. I cried big fat ugly tears. Due to my preterm labor the drs wouldnt consider trying to turn her though. So we scheduled the c-section. Three days later, she flipped on her own (and was it painful) but she made her grand entrance into this world in 40 minutes (from start to finish) and drug free head first. To this day she is still this way, stubborn and must do things her way and as fast as possible:) Good luck mama. You can do this, prayers for success! Ultimately a health happy baby is the goal:)

Please turn little guy!! Also, know that a C section is not as scary as it sounds. I had one after 31 hours of labor, 4 pushing. He was stuck. Crooked. If I had pushed him out he may have broken his neck. I thank god I did not. Whatever way gets your baby boy here safely if the right way. There is no failure in a c section. I promise you because I did not fail. I have a beautiful, healthy little boy. And you will too, however his way of getting here is. Sending you love!!

I went through this with my daughter years ago. I hope they are able to get him turned around. Thinking of you and your little sunshine.

My first boy...the one we fought so dearly for...also thought entering this world feet first was a fun idea. Unfortunately, he was unable to be turned due to his rather large size, but once I came to terms with the c-section all was well. Matthew was born just shy of 38 weeks and weighed a healthy 8lbs 6ozs!!!
I'll keep you in my thoughts today for a successful version. Turn baby turn!!! xoxo

Argh I have so been there! Thankfully my baby was frank breech so we were still able to have our home birth but we tried everything including the ECV to get her to turn. It's so stressful! Sending you good vibes! Turn baby turn!

Hoping your little one moves out of the breech position. I had a successful manual version with my third pregnancy and my baby boy was born the following week. Praying your little one turns.

I hope it all goes well for you!! Delainey was frank breech so we had to have a c-section but we didn't realize she was this was until it was too late! Good luck!! SO close to meeting him too!!

Good luck. My daughter turned back breech around my due date and I had to have her manually turned. My doctor and nurses successfully turned my little girl. I understand how scared you must be, I was terrified. But all will be well. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Sending prayers and good thoughts that you version is successful <3

I have heard peppermint oil spread on your tummy by the baby's head helps to turn the baby, bc it it a "cold oil" the baby tries to turn away from it, also an ice pack near his head, same theory. Good Luck!

Praying the version is successful!

Come on baby! Flip! My friend had luck in flipping a breech by basically doing assisted headstands - leaning over the end of the bed. Many time a day. It's worth a try!
Good luck mama!

I hope that the attempts to turn baby sunshine were successful. I delivered one of my twins breech (three weeks ago). It was rough, but we're all on the upside now. I posted their birth story a few days ago if you're interested.

Good luck! My daughter was breech - but my waters broke before we tried to move her! C section was a bummer - but recovered fast and so many women end up having them anyway.

Anyway - hoping you can avoid it but want to say it will be ok either way!
