baby sunshine is a….

happy sunday!
thanks for playing along. i loved reading your baby gender predictions. it was so much fun. the votes are officially in and the vast majority of y'all think we are having a girl.

98 votes for a baby girl
56 votes for a baby boy

my favorite part about reading your comments was reading the reasons why you think we are having one sex over the other. some of you thought because i'm girly, i'd have a girl. some people were analyzing the chalk color in this post and another remembering the dream i had several months ago. but my favorite were the comments based on this onesie. i promise y'all the onesie is totally gender neutral, i wasn't giving anything away.

now that you've humored me…here is the rest of the story.
the rock landed with the G face up.
we picked up the rock, walked along the beach and never questioned it. the rock had spoken. we were going to tell the doctor that we'd like him to transfer the very best looking girl embryo. for the next week, we settled into the idea of having a baby girl and talked about what it was going to be like….raising a little girl.

but that's not the end of the story.

sometimes God has bigger plans than a rock toss and He wants to make those plans known. the morning of my transfer, i got a call with the results of our genetic testing. remember A had to work that day so he wasn't with me. i was supposed to call him at work as soon as the results came in, even though we had already decided what gender to transfer.

the embryologist told me that we had 10 normal embryos. then he told me that ALL 10 of those normal embryos are male. i was in shock. i asked him if that was odd. this is what he said:
"never in my 25 years as an embryologist, have i ever seen THIS MANY embryos come back all the same gender. maybe if you have 5 embryos, i could see them all being the same sex. but THIS MANY... we've never seen it in our lab before."
well, then. okay. we hear you up there. loud and clear. we are meant to parent a sweet little boy.

I love this! The whole fertility process comes with lots of decisions that feel so overwhelming. I remember deciding how many embryos to fertilize. We talked it it forever. Didn't want too many left over didn't want not enough. We decided on 12. And turns out I only had 12

Katie said...

Oops! Didn't finish :) 12 good eggs. It was like god saying I've got this. Stop questioning and worrying about every detail! So happy for you and can't wait to meet that sweet boy!

I think it's absolutely amazing that, despite the fact that you and your hubby were asked to 'choose' (and did your best to still make it as much of a 50/50 chance as possible by tossing the rock), it was still left up to God. You were just meant to have a boy, and so you will have a boy. Wow! I literally got chills reading this! Can't wait to see that little peanut become a baby bump, and then an adorable, squishy baby:) So excited for you, Jessah! As a boymom myself, I know you will love it (just as you would have with a girl, but you know what I mean!) Boys and their mamas share a special bond:)

Yay!! If that isn't a clear sign from the Universe, then I don't know what is. So excited for you!

It also has me pondering how many of our own embryos started out as boys vs girls... and of course which one survived and is currently in utero. It's moments like now that I can totally appreciate knowing the gender in advance of the birth. :)

I love reading your blog. It helps me understand that my husband and me are not alone in this infertility journey. We are currently in the decision phase of trying one more round of IVF or using donor eggs and reading your blog has helped me wrap my head around the idea of donor eggs more. If you had asked me a year ago if I would even think of going the egg donor route I would have said no but reading your blog has helped me understand there is nothing to fear. If our baby is genetically half of my husband, the baby will be way ahead of the game. Thanks for all your inspiration, you truly deserve all the blessings coming your way.

I have NEVER been right about these things (with other people, at least) - but I KNEW IT!!! If having all male embryos wasn't a sign from God that you were meant to have a son, then I don't know what would be. Congratulations!

yahoo! I knew it! Thats so so cool Jessah! how exciting! hope you like blue ;)

Ashley said...

Could your story get any sweeter? When I read "the rock had spoken," it made me think of some comments that my pastor had said about he believes God doesn't care about things like who you marry and which job you choose (within reason) but how you live your life. But then when I got to the part about all 10 embryos being male, I realized that God def had a role in the decision! By the way, it is absolutely amazing to have a son, I wouldn't change it for the world!
