off and running

k and i got had our baselines this week.
it was a bit stressful on my end because my nurse was not clear that i might not get my period. over the weekend, i was waiting and stressing every day thinking that the cycle was going to be cancelled if AF didn't show up.

the paperwork read "you may get your period in 2-5 days" and nurse told me that i "should" get my period after taking my last birth control pill. well, i didn't.

after a few frantic phone calls and emails with no reassurance from my nurse, i went into my local clinic for my baseline. my concern was that my lining would be too thick because i didn't shed anything. but everything looked the way it should and i was cleared for take off. all my nurse had to say is "you might not get your period and that's okay" but she didn't. sigh.

i think i should become an IVF nurse since i know what not to do.

everything looked great with k!
her ultrasound showed 15 follicles in her right ovary and at least 10 follicles that could be seen in her left ovary. but the tech said some more could be hiding.

we're off to fantastic start.

I've got a list of things that IVF nurses should NOT do. We had a really hard time getting phone calls returned from my last RE's office. I'm glad it all turned out okay for you, though. I've got fingers, toes, arms, and whatever else I can find crossed for you on this one!

YAY! Awesome AFC! Things are looking good!

It makes you wonder, they should be the people with all of the knowledge yet somehow it feels like we all are the experts sometimes. Glad to hear you are off to a great start though!

I'm so excited for you! :) Good luck!!!

Good grief-- one tiny thing that they could have mentioned that could save so much stress!!! I think it should be a requirement to be an IVF dr or nurse that you went through infertility yourself!!! :)

Seriously, I think we should all get together and write a book about what medical staff should/shouldn't say to a bunch of hormonal women. You'd think it would be common sense, but apparently not!

Glad things are off to a great start. I have high hopes for this cycle!

I'm so thrilled everything is off to a good start!

How rude of them not to tell you. My nurse has always told me, " You may or you may not bleed after your last pill." Sigh! Sorry you had to go through that. Looks like things are coming along. Yay(:

LOVE that picture! Praying her follicles grow grow grow!!!! :)

Yay, those are great numbers so far! Sorry your nurse wasn't straight with you - I wish they'd realize how much stress we're all under while going through the process and just saying something simple like that could make a world of difference.

I am so glad that you found the perfect donor and have been able to move forward! How nerve racking about getting your period.. that should have been a simple phone call/email from your nurse. Hopefully she is more clear as things continue to progress. Wishing you all my love and prayers for success!

Question that is none of my business... Will K be donating all of the eggs from this one cycle? Is the goal to harvest as many as possible and then freeze the rest? It seems like that would be great if you could do that!

Yay! Your uterus is cozy, haha so funny! I remember thinking I should become a medical billing coder (whatever they are called) for all the times I was on hold with insurance explaining why certain procedures weren't considered infertility.

I think nurses just don't think about all the anxiety that lack of information causes unless they've been there.

Otherwise, YAY!!!!

What a cute photo. Go uterus!
IVF nurses should be required to go through this to find out what we really need, one thinks sometimes...

Aramis said...

Argh! It's amazing that IVF nurses haven't quite learned how to deal with all the stress and questions that we patients have. I can't wait to read how this cycle goes for you. Good luck!

I think we all have a list of what not to do or say during the IVF process! Sorry you had some unnecessary stress, but I am so excited things seem to be off to such a great start! Sounds like you will have a lot of follicles to work with from K!
