what are you doing for others?

Recently, someone has made me think about what it means to truly help others. I mean, truly. To look for opportunities to change peoples' lives. To do what you can do to impact someone's world. Whether it is something big or doesn't matter.

Most of us have the ability to help others in a profound way. To give selflessly of ourselves for the pure joy and happiness of others. But we don't do it.

So many reasons. Too busy. We have our own problems to worry about. Maybe we don't really think we could make a difference in someone's life. Or maybe we don't think about it at all.

The world needs more people who are willing to act and not look away. To be problem hunters. Not in our own lives (which so many of us do), but in the lives of others. To ask ourselves what need we can fulfill. What gift of ourselves can we give?

And then do something about it.
That's the part where many of us fall short…at least it's true for me. We may see the problem. Feel compassion. But then turn away and focus again on ourselves and our own lives. We simply don't take action.

I vow to do something kind for someone else.
Everyone could use a helping hand now and then.
Moving forward, I will see others' needs and lift them up.

What commitment are you willing to make to live more for others?

Below are some inspirational quotes that really resonated with me on this subject.

It's a feeling you cannot explain. You don't feel proud, or boastful. You don't want to shout from a mountain top or brag. You just smile and know inside you did something, made a difference. I'm happy and honored to help others. It's my gift as a nurse.

That is such a great post. I especially love the quote "You have never really lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you." I think that you are helping people just by writing and sharing your story. You're touching more people than you know!

Loved this post. The harder road is the more rewarding one :) It's not always easy to give back or to do something truly and genuinely meaningful, but making someone's day easier or happier is well worth the effort!

I love this!! The one about doing something for someone that can't repay you is the one I really love. I just need to do better at it. Thanks for the reminder :)

My church is having a crusade this week and our evangelist touched on this very subject! He took it a step farther and asked how are we investing in someone's life spiritually? Most of us stay so busy but what is it achieving? What are we doing that has eternal rewards or benefits?
Great post! Thanks for sharing!
