Did you know...

Marilyn Monroe.
Arguably one of the most iconic woman in America.
She and I have something in common.
We both have endometriosis.

And sadly there is little more known today about this disease than there was 50 years ago.
That blows me away.

I don't know much about Marilyn.
But when I learned this part of her history, I did some digging.
Here's what I found...

It's rumored that she died from an overdose of pain pills prescribed to help her cope with pain caused by endometriosis.
She suffered an ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage as a result of this disease.
Many believe that her unhappiness was in large part due to her infertility.

A few years ago, the Endometriosis Association was even bold enough to suggest that Marilyn’s infertility may have indirectly contributed to her death: "Marilyn Monroe was a victim of endometriosis, putting her in the hospital repeatedly, contributing to her use of pain-deadening narcotics and aggravating her psychological problems.”

Did you know all of this?
I have endo and had never heard about this part of her life.
How disturbing that so few people speak of this disease and so little is known about it.
It is because of this that I wanted to blog about it.
Awareness. Pure and simple.

I didn't know that, thanks for sharing! Endo runs in my family- luckily I've avoided it, but it's caused some serious damage to many cousins and aunts. So sorry you have to deal with it too!!

Awareness is so important. People need to be informed and to be able to feel support of others so they know they're not alone in their struggles. Thank you for sharing this. I found you via the blog hop this weekend and am excited to follow along!

Hello! I am Jo from I found your blog on the blog hop! Hoping you'll follow back :)

I have always loved Marilyn Monroe. I have so many books on her. I have read the only thing she really ever wanted out of life was to be a Mommy. Makes me sad :(

WHOA! I never knew this. How freaking sad. This breaks my heart for her. I pray the next 50 years brings not only GOOD treatment, but a cure and at least a freaking cause!

Thanks for sharing!

I did not know that! I was misdiagnosed with endometriosis at 15 years old and then diagnosed correctly with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome at 22. After a long battle with infertility we just brought home our first daughter in June through international adoption.

Wow! I did not know all that about Marilyn Monroe! They say I have endo and PCO, but my symptoms don't necessarily line up, so who really knows, right?! ;)
