Then on Sunday, it was Splash Dog time! My lil guy competed in his first dock jumping competition. I must say...I'm a proud mama. Since aussies are herding dogs, I wasn't sure how he would do but I had high hopes. He loves to swim (not incredibly common for his breed) and obsesses over his ball. So I thought he might do well. But he's no lab.
First, let me start by telling you a little bit about Splash Dogs. The Splash Dogs Dock Jumping Competition is an event that travels to different cities where dogs compete for distance by diving off a dock into a pool of water to see who can jump the farthest. Dog/handler teams can compete in one or more competition waves throughout the weekend in order to qualify for the event finals, which are held on Sunday afternoons.
Last year, we stumbled upon this event in a strip mall parking lot and thought it was pretty neat. So this year, I decided to get in on the action. I'm so glad I did. We had a great time and my aussie baby jumped a whopping 13.1ft to qualify for the Junior finals. In the finals, we choked and took 10th place in his class. Not too bad for a newbie...we'll take it. But most of all, it was a ton of fun. Some family and friends came by to cheer us on which was so sweet. Thanks to all of our cheerleaders!

Now I have the Splash Dog bug and have been trying to strategize how to get my boy to jump farther next time. A started teasing and calling me "the crazy dog lady". Bottom line: I'm a competitor. Now I can't stop until we break some world records!
