When we moved to "the burbs" a few years ago, it was a huge adjustment. My friends, work and whole life had always been in the city. After a few weeks in the new house, I began building a social network a little closer to home. It was a necessity. I didn't want to commute almost an hour each way for work AND for my social activities.
My colleague (at the time) lived in my new area and introduced me to a group of working women that she met through a meetup.com group. I hit it off really well with her friends. This positive experience gave me the idea to start my own meetup group surrounding books. My meetup group grew to over 50 members in the community and connected so many like-minded women in our little town. I'm so glad I started it.
Although the women in our group have different connections with each other, we all enjoy each other's company and have fun together. For my birthday last week, some of the girls celebrated with me and treated me to dinner at one of our fave local restaurants. Happy hour. Darling decorations. Delicious homemade lemon cupcakes. Thoughtful gifts. And some great friends. It was such a fun night. I'm so happy that I found each of these unique ladies.
